What we did in Math 8 class today!!
Oct 21 - Started talking about 8PR2 - Solving Equations. Worked with Hands on Equation to help students understand the process of solving for a variable.
Oct 16 - Continued work on integer rules. Worked on order of operations with multiplying, dividing, subtracting and adding integers. Students must know the rules so they can apply them in problem solving situations.
Oct 15 - We started out today apply of new discovered multiplication and division of integer skills to work doing order of operations. We quickly discovered that many students had forgotten how to add and subtract integers from Grade 7 work so we wrote down the rules of adding and subtracting integers and practiced a few numbers. We will continue this again tomorrow as this is an essential skill that students need to know.
Oct 10 - Sorry I haven't updated this. I was gone for a few days and got out of the habit. I will try and do better.
In Math 8 we have been studying 8N7 - Multiplication and Division of Integers. Today we finished discussing Division of Integers and we looking at applications of dividing integers. Students were assigned Lesson 8.4 page 310 questions 11 - 22
Yesterday in the first period we discussed dividing integers and in the second math period we discussed finding the percent of a number and then did examples of application by finding the sale price of items you might find in a store and how to estimate the discount and how much you would pay at the store.
Sept 26 - Introduced 8SS2 -Nets & 3D Objects.
Students explored nets of cubes using polyhedrons and then drew as many nets of a cube as they could. There were 11 different nets that could be drawn.
Sept 24 - Continued with 8SS5 Three Dimensional View
Textbook Chapter 5 Lesson 5.1
Sept 23 - 8SS5 Three Dimensional Views Chapter 5 Lesson 5.1.
We learned how to draw three dimensional objects on isometric dot paper.
Sept 19 - Mathlinks 8 textbook Chapter 2, Section 2.1 pg 201 questions 4,5,6,9,20
Sept 18 - Discussed Transformation of 8SS6 - Congruence and Similar Polygons. Students were given graph paper and then asked to perform several different transformations including - reflections, rotations and translations from the original figure and to label the vertices of each transformation correctly.
Sept 17 - Continued with 8SS6 - Congruence and Similar Polygons and did an activity that students needed to find similar and different characteristics of different polygons and match those with other shapes.
Sept 16 - Learned about 8SS6 - Congruence and Similar Polygons.
Watched a short video and then did the interactive on the internet. Click on the links to watch the video and then do the interactive until you understand it well enough to take a check up.
Took check up for 8SS6 - Congruence of Polygons
Sept 9 -13 - Reviewed addition and subtraction of integers from Grade 7N6.
Sept 3 -6 - Reviewed adding and subtracting fraction from Grade 7N5
