Government Involvement in the Economy
Government Involvement in the Economy
Going Beyond
Investigate the role of the CRTC. Determine what the CRTC does and what it is doing today to improve telecommunications and broadcasting in Canada.
Lesson Summary
In this lesson you investigated this question: How does my government and the government of the United States get involved in the market economies?
The governments in both countries do participate in their economies. The United States government believes that its participation should remain minimal. Basically, the United States government is there to ensure that the economy continues to function in a positive manner (i.e., in a way that ensures the public good).
In Canada, the government is generally more involved in the economy. It has traditionally been the role of government to support the economy and the people who work for it.
In the next lesson you will explore how labour unions can impact economic decision making.
